So what's this all about?

I had thought every single industry had been streamlined, rationalised, re-engineered and Total Quality Managed within an inch of its existence.  Apparently not.  The world of Grant Making is an interesting one: an industry which has burgeoned, with the growth of banking and energy trusts, and gaming trusts.  Many Councils also run substantial grant making programmes, and more and more corporate entities are looking to be seen to be doing good through giving programmes.

I came out of Otago University with an Honours degree in Marketing and a side of Accounting and Finance.  I have worked in the corporate sector for over fifteen years in banking and the oil industry, had some time out for children, and then part time workforce re-entry into a post earthquake Not for Profit, followed by a stint at a grant maker.  I have no policy background, no political agenda... I am just a bit nosy and interested in how, and why, resources get allocated.

I have seen a need for a more integrated view of the sector, and, more importantly, some opportunities to direct more funds to the purpose of the Not For Profit by streamlining process.  There could also be some opportunities to have more of a look at what some groups actually do through casting some sunlight onto the sector.  I have learnt that  some groups are better than others, some may create unintended consequences, and that often there is little incentive to work together to make a real difference.

I am also keen to ensure that I can have a work experience that allows me to balance working with family and community life.  It's my grand vision to create a social enterprise in this space whereby parents have a valid, worthy and viable opportunity to continue to develop their working skills while balancing the needs of their families and communities.  As a totally marginalised workforce, I strongly believe that everyone would be better off if we can change the way we think about working.

If you want to chat about any of these initiatives, please get in touch.

cheers
